Instructions for cookie decorating kits

So you received one of my Christmas or NYE cookie decorating kits !

Here is what you need to know to get the most out of the kit.

Instructions:

1) when you receive the kit the icing in the bags will need massaging. The icing inside will be split slightly so massage the piping bags with your hands to mix the icing back up into a smooth homogeneous coloured mixture.
2) next you need to lay out your cookies and cut a small hole in the tip of each bag. When cutting the hole start very small and pipe out some icing to see how thick it is. The line of icing should be around 1mm thick, so if it’s coming out super thin like a strand of cotton make another cut to make the hole bigger.

3) when decorating the cookies, start by outlining the area you want to fill. Leave the outline to dry for a minute or two before filling in the area, using a toothpick to push and swirl the icing into the corners, and to reach the borders.

4) if you want to create a furry effect for example on the jumper cuffs or the mittens, spoon the sparking sugar over a wet section of icing and then shake and tap off the excess. Do all furry sections first, before piping in other areas in order to control where the sugar goes.

5) To create the knitted look drag the icing up and down, wiping the toothpick in between each stroke.

6) To get a golden shimmer on the icing (for example on the tops of the champagne bottles) add a few drops of vodka or clear alcohol to the shimmer powder and mix. Apply using your finger or a small clean brush (just like eyeshadow!). You can also apply the shimmer dust to the cookie dry (without the alcohol) but the color will be less intense.
